Diploma in Pharmacy (DPH)

Diploma in Pharmacy (DPharm) Program is three years academic course affiliated to CTEVT which aims to fulfill the healthcare needs of the people with its socio-cultural impact on health. This course is based on the job required to perform by a pharmacy assistant at different levels of public and private health institutions in Nepal. The professionals are eligible for registration as pharmacy assistants in the Nepal Pharmacy Council. The Diploma in Pharmacy program extends over three years.

Qualification                                   :  SEE passed with minimum “C” grade in compulsory Math, Science & English with GPA 2, or SLC graduates with pass division including must passed the entrance examination taken by CTEVT.

Medium of Instruction                  :  English + Nepali

Objectives of the Program

The objective of the Diploma in Pharmacy (DPharm) program is to produce competent middle-level pharmacy human resource with perfect technical skills that can face a real-life situation at the level, entails the following objectives: 

  • To prepare technically competent middle-level pharmacy human resources who will demonstrate excellent service attitude and respect for the profession and socio-cultural values.

  • To develop middle-level pharmacy human resources for good pharmacy practice in the hospitals as well as in the community settings.

  • To demonstrate leadership in managing the quality supply of pharmaceuticals and to promote rational use of medicine within the healthcare facilities and at the community pharmacies.

  • To develop middle-level pharmacy human resources in order to assist in the production and quality assurance of pharmaceuticals.

  • To pursue further academic careers in Bachelor Degree (MPharma, BPharma)

Admission Criteria:

  • SLC passed with compulsory English, Math &Science  or TSLC in Lab Technology

  • Must pass the entrance examination conducted by CTEVT

  • Physically and mentally fit(Medical fitness certificate at the time of admission)

The requirement for Admission:

  • Duly filled Admission Form

  • Photocopy of Mark-Sheets and Character Certificate of SLC or TSLC  

  • Photocopy of Citizenship Certificate

  • Six copies of PP size Photographs

Scope of Diploma in Pharmacy:

After completion of the course, individuals will become eligible candidates for registration in the Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC) in grade "B" that permit them to work in any hospitals, nursing homes, and health institutions of government and the non-government sectoras a mid-level health worker. The main scope and working areas of DPharma are:

  • Central Hospitals and

  • Teaching Hospitals

  • District Hospitals

  • Primary Health Care Centers (PHCC)

  • Health Posts (HP)

  • Medicine suppliers

  • Pharmaceutical services providing sites including Polyclinics

  • Community pharmacy

Course overview of DPharm:

The first year focuses on basic science subjects; the second year focuses on basic medical science and pharmaceutical sciences. Similarly, the third year focuses on the professional practice focus courses and application of acquired knowledge and skills through comprehensive field practiceshospitals, community pharmacies, drug manufacturing, regulation, and quality assurance.
