The CTEVT started PCL Nursing in 1999 AD (2056 BS). Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing (PCL Nursing or SN) Program is three years academic course, which aims to producea mid-level technical nursing workforce equipped with knowledge and skills related to the field of nursing so as to meet the demand of the nursing workforce in the country and abroad. PCL nursing is one of the prominent and popular disciplines within the Nursing profession. PCL Nursing graduate has been helping the world for the all-round development of health and self-employment opportunities in the public and private sectors.

Qualification                                   :  SEE passed with minimum “C” grade in compulsory Math, Science & English with GPA 2, or SLC graduates with minimum 45% for PCL nursing, and pass division for HA, DPharm and CMLT courses including must passed the entrance examination taken by CTEVT.

Objectives of the Program

To produce a middle-level nursing workforce who is independent and competent to assume the responsibility to carry out the function of preventive, primitive, curative, rehabilitative, and holistic care of an individual/group at the hospital and in community settings. This curriculum has the following objectives to:

  • Utilize a sound knowledge base in giving care to well and sick individuals, families, and communities.
  • Perform preventive and therapeutic measures directed toward promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.
  • Utilize communication skills effectively with individuals and groups in a variety of settings.
  • Utilize the nursing process in providing and improving health care.
  • Assume leadership for planning and improving health care.
  • Teach and supervise individuals, families, and groups including health care workers.
  • Collaborate with multispectral groups to develop a healthful environment, including safe drinking water, sanitation, and other holistic approachesto the community.
  • Mobilize the community to participate in the activities of the village health post.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and respect for cultural values in working to meet needs and solve problems.
  • Continue to seek new knowledge for personal and professional growth.
  • To pursue further academic careers in Bachelor Degree (PBBN, MN)

Admission Criteria:

  • SLC passed with compulsory English, Math &Science(Minimum C grade,and overall "GPA 2") or SLC passed in 3rd division plus Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) with 68.33 percentage.
  • Must pass the entrance examination conducted by CTEVT
  • Physically and mentally fit(Medical fitness certificate at the time of admission)

  • Duly filled Admission Form
  • Photocopy of Mark-Sheets and Character Certificate of SLC or ANM  
  • Photocopy of Citizenship Certificate
  • Six copies of PP size Photographs

Scope of PCL Nursing:

After completion of the course, individuals will becomeeligible candidates for registration in the Nepal Nursing Council (NNC) in grade "B" that permit them to work in any hospitals, nursing homes, and health institutions of government and the non-government sectoras a mid-level health worker. The main scope and working areas of Staff Nurse are:

  • Teaching Hospitals
  • District Hospitals
  • Primary Health Care Centers (PHCC)
  • Health Posts (HP)
  • Medicine suppliers
  • Pharmaceutical services providing sites including Polyclinics
  • Community pharmacy

Course overview of PCL Nursing:

This course is based on the job required to perform by the Staff Nurse at different levels in the public and private sector’s health field in relation to nursing jobs in Nepal. Therefore, this curriculum is designed to provide knowledge and skills focusing on the nursing-related occupation. The first-year course is focused on basic nursing care in hospitals and the communityfoundational nursing practices; the second-year course is focused on preventive, promotive as well as therapeutic nursing care of sick adult and elderly individuals as well as mentally ill individual. Similarly, the third-year course comprises of pediatric, midwifery, and gynecology as well as leadership and management.
